There was a time when I used to sleep 8 hours no matter what. If I went to bed at 11, i'd awake at 7 the next morning. I didn't even need an alarm clock. I'd just go to bed 8 hours before I needed to get up. In the last two months, though, I turned into a total insomniac, getting only 3 to 5 hours of sleep.
At the time, I was moving house and planning a wedding, so the added time to my day was put to productive use. Although, it did get lonely at 3am while everyone but me slept. However, the morning after I was pronounced Mrs Sidler, I awoke to discover that I'd finally slept through the night again. I put my insomnia down to wedding stress because I've slept well every night since.
That is, until I woke up at 3.30 this morning. I tried to fight it, lying motionless in bed for another half an hour, but eventually I got bored. Not wanting to wake my husband by switching on the light to read, I decided to go for a walk that quickly turned into jog on account of the cold. Impressively, I managed to run the 6km to the Park gate and back without a problem, even though I only ever do power walking at RWFL with my dad. I'm sure I'll feel it later, though.
When I got back at about 5am, I found Kev already dressed and showered and wondering where I'd got to. Shame, I hope the poor thing wasn't worried that I'd already left him... Turns out I woke him when I left anyway, despite trying to be quiet.
We drank the complimentary tea and waited for the sun to rise in our chalet, which was suprisingly warm, considering that there was ice forming on the windscreen of my dad's 'pimp mobile' outside. Then we grabbed the cameras and headed off to get some stunning sunrise shots of the Orange river tumbling down the canyon at Augrabies. Before long, though, our hands refused to cooperate any longer under such chilly conditions, and we decided to get something hot to drink in the breakfast room.
Tea was about all that appealed to me, though, as the breakfast buffet was rather limited for someone with my fussy eating habits. Having worked up quite an appetite in the early hours of the morning, I was a bit disappointed to find that fresh fruit was not on the morning menu. Luckily, though, Kev had packed some bananas, pears, and apples yesterday before we left, so I'm making a breakfast out of that in the car as we head to the border.
We're gonna have to stock up again before my next 45 minute run, though. Although, bananas are supposed to be good for sleeplessness, so maybe I should be having them for dessert rather than breakfast...
